Fishing basics
Prepare a tool and bait, start a fishing session, and keep space for your catch.
Prepare for a fishing spot
Carry the tool required by the spot, if it specifies one. Approach the water, face the fishing spot, and use its interaction prompt. The game tells you if you are missing the required tool or Fishing level.
Tools can affect bite speed, catch success, and the chance of an extra catch. Applicable bait carried in the inventory is selected automatically; you do not need to activate it from the hotbar. Bait can apply to particular fish or water types.
Wait for a catch
Fishing proceeds automatically while you remain at the spot. Your level and tool method determine which of the spot's fish can be selected. Not every attempt succeeds.
Successful catches go into the inventory and grant Fishing experience. Bait is normally consumed after a successful catch; skill perks can provide a chance to save it.
Keep inventory space free
A catch must fit into your inventory. If there is not enough room, the session ends with a message explaining the space needed. Extra-catch bonuses can require more space than an ordinary catch.
End the session
Walk away to stop fishing. A spot can also move away when its session timer expires and enter a cooldown. Its timing and available fish depend on the spot's configuration.
Browse fish and other items and recipes for configured ingredients and outputs. Verified fishing locations will be added as the game's maps are reviewed.
