Reading enemies & bosses
Recognize wildlife, attack warnings, elite variants, and changing boss encounters.
Read the creature before committing
The enemy index lists all 42 configured creature definitions, their combat stats, behavior roles, elite eligibility, and configured loot. A reference definition does not guarantee a spawn in every playable build.
Wildlife uses species-specific movement and escape behavior. Rabbits evade with zigzag movement, poultry can burst away, and smaller animals have their own wariness and escape speeds. A non-aggressive creature is not automatically a stationary training target.
Hostile creatures use different approach distances, warnings, and attack patterns. Some circle, feint, delay, retreat, or attack at range. Sight, nearby movement, and noise can affect detection. Enemies coordinate attack opportunities in groups; that does not make a group safe to stand inside.
Use tells and recovery
Move out of a committed strike's path and punish its recovery. Several humanoid foes, including Boneshades, dart throwers, and acolytes, can react to a visible committed action with a sidestep or flank. These movements have a delay and cooldown and grant no invulnerability. Chill or exposure can prevent that evasive response from starting.
Burning deals periodic damage; Chill slows movement. Applying the opposing fire or frost condition consumes the pair and exposes the target for a physical follow-up. Exposure boosts one accepted physical hit; a miss does not spend it. Bosses receive shorter statuses and a smaller movement reduction. See combat basics for guard and parry controls.
Expect elite variants
Eligible hostile map spawns can appear with elite tactics; ordinary wildlife and bosses do not roll them. Some rare compatible pairs can occur. Elite gold quantities receive one 50% premium even for a paired variant. Eligibility is a configured possibility, not a guaranteed elite encounter or extra item drop.
Recognize the four boss encounters
The authored encounters are the Obsidian Bone King, Ix-Kin, Shard-Eater, Mountain Oathkeeper, and Dawnkeeper's Warden. The Warden uses the Obsidian Brute creature definition; its encounter rules and rewards are separate from ordinary Brutes.
Bosses change phases and can use warned ground hazards, projectile volleys, charges, or summoned allies. Ground warnings stay at their marked location. Read each new tell and leave the threatened area before release. Encounter rewards and first-clear flags persist; repeatedly reloading is not an additional first-clear reward source.
The Mountain Oathkeeper has a pickaxe weakness. A pickaxe must deliver the accepted finishing melee hit to qualify for its special first-clear finishing reward. Earlier pickaxe hits followed by another damage source do not count as a pickaxe finish.
Boss combat values and ordinary creature loot in the index are development references. This guide does not claim a tested strategy, a full encounter drop table, or human balance acceptance for every arena.
