Use and equip items

Open the character menu with Tab or controller Start, then choose the inventory. Select an item and use X to use or equip it. With a mouse, right-click an item to open its action menu and choose Use or Equip when available.

Weapons occupy the weapon slot. Armor has separate helmet, chest, legs, and boots slots. The inventory details panel shows your equipped items alongside the selected item's information.

Organize and protect supplies

The inventory supports sorting, filtering, splitting stacks, favorites, and item locks. Right-click a stack containing more than one item to choose Split Stack. Use Favorite to mark an important item, or Lock to prevent dropping it. Favorite status adds a confirmation when dropping; it does not replace a lock.

The Dawnkeeper's Lantern is protected from dropping. Other valuable equipment and rare items can require a drop confirmation.

Set up the hotbar

Select a consumable in the inventory and press 1–0 to assign it to a hotbar slot. During ordinary gameplay, pressing that slot's number attempts to use the assigned consumable. X uses the selected hotbar slot.

On a controller, cycle hotbar slots with D-pad Left/Right during gameplay, then use the selected slot with RB or D-pad Down. In the inventory, hold RB with D-pad Left/Right to change hotbar selection, then release RB and press the right stick to assign the selected item.

Bait can also be assigned for visibility, but it is used automatically by fishing rather than activated from the hotbar. Weapons and armor are equipped through the inventory.
